School Highlights

From Classroom to Creek: A Living Lesson with Speckled Trout

Students from the Learning Centre at Eskasoni Middle School had a special hands-on experience thanks to the Cape Breton Wildlife Association. After weeks of caring for speckled trout in their classroom tank ~ observing, feeding, and learning about their lifecycle; students had the opportunity to release the young trout into the fresh stream just outside their school doors.

This meaningful activity connected science and the land, in a real and lasting way. Wela’lioq to the Cape Breton Wildlife Association for guiding this learning journey and helping our students understand the importance of protecting and respecting our natural environment.

Cultural Connections

Middle School Spirit With Every Step & Song

Our middle school students brought incredible energy and pride to EEM’s school community powwow held on June 17th. From the steady heartbeat of the drum to the confident steps of our young dancers, their presence was a powerful reminder of the importance of culture, connection, and community.

Through the guidance of our Land-Based and Culture Coordinator, Kate Jadis, students had the opportunity to learn, lead, and celebrate in a space filled with tradition and spirit. Their voices and movements carried the teachings of those who came before them and reflected the bright future ahead.

Wela’lioq to all who helped create this unforgettable day.

Guiding growth, inspiring confidence Grades 5–8

Eskasoni Middle School serves students from Grades 5 to 8, guiding them through their formative years with a focus on responsibility, self-confidence, and cultural pride. Rooted in community values, the school fosters a welcoming environment where Mi’kmaq language and culture are woven into daily learning. Though it currently shares a building with the elementary school, Eskasoni Middle School is set to move to the current high school building once construction of the new high school is complete.
