Drumming is more than music… it’s the heartbeat of our culture, echoing teachings that reach far beyond words. For our young learners, the drum is often their first connection to tradition; a sound that grounds them in identity, pride, and belonging.
Eskasoni Elementary School
Nestled along the scenic Bras d’Or Lakes, Eskasoni Elementary School provides a strong foundation for students from Kindergarten to Grade 4. Families can choose between our English stream with Mi’kmaq language classes at Eskasoni Elementary or the Mi’kmaq immersion program offered at Essissoqnikewey Siawa’sik-l’nuey Kina’matinewo’kuo’m (ESK Immersion School). Regardless of the path chosen, all students transition into the mainstream program by Grade 5, continuing to learn and celebrate their Mi’kmaq language and culture. While Elementary and Middle School currently share a building, plans are in place for the Elementary grades (K–4) to remain in this location once the Middle School moves to its new home next door.
